Loving God, we cry out to you on behalf of the people of the Darfur region.
Prayer for the Darfuri

Loving God, we cry out to you on behalf of the people of the Darfur region. Why must so many suffer such unspeakable horrors? Why must they be displaced from their homes? Why have so many people suffered and died from violence, malnutrition and disease?

Even so, Lord God, you are compassionate and faithful. Give hope and peace to this region of Sudan. Comfort the families of the victims. Help those displaced to find shelter and food. Heal the wounded and the sick. Calm the fear and anger that is constantly present. May these people who are suffering so intensely experience your strength and healing. Give courage, perseverance, and wisdom to those working in this region to end this suffering.

Bring your justice to earth. Sometimes it's easy for us to feel removed from the horror millions live with each day. Convict us of the agony so many are experiencing. Instead of being overwhelmed to inaction or apathy, help us know how to pray and who to pray for. May our knowledge of this suffering in Darfur make us alert to the suffering in other parts of the world. Give us the grace and opportunity to work for justice and to show your mercy throughout our lives. In the name of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.
