Helen Rhee

Professor of History of Christianity, Religious Studies

Dr. Rhee holds B.A. in history from UC Berkeley, and MDiv. and Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to joining Westmont in 2004, she served as pastor of Hana Church in Buena Park, Calif. and is an ordained minister of Free Methodist Church Santa Barbara. She teaches all periods of church history and specializes in early Christian history (the second through the fifth centuries). Her interdisciplinary research interests include 1) Christian identity formation in relation to Greco-Roman culture and society; 2) theology of wealth and poverty and Christian care for the poor; and 3) theology of illness and pain and Christian engagement with Greco-Roman medicine and health care.
