Emily R. Brink
Emily R. Brink served as Program Director and Senior Research Fellow for the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship beginning in 2002, then in semi-retirement [in 2014] became Resource Development Specialist for Congregational Song until she completely retired in 2021.
She is editor emeritus of Reformed Worship, a quarterly journal she founded in 1985, published by the Christian Reformed Church. Dr. Brink is known for her scholarship and teaching in congregational song from all times and places; psalmody; hymnal editing (she was editor of three different hymnals); and for consulting with a wide range of churches on worship renewal issues.
She served in both local and national offices of the American Guild of Organists and remains active in the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada; she served as president from 1990-1992 and in 2004 was named a Fellow of the Hymn Society in recognition of distinguished service to hymnody and hymnology.
Dr. Brink has a graduate degree in organ and church music from the University of Michigan and the Ph.D. in music theory from the Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
